Tommy is a much
loved pet who is looking for a new home as
his owners feel he would benefit from more
one to one attention.
Here is what his
owners said about him.
Tommy is a high
energy dog and our other 3 dogs are older
and more laid back. We live on a 10 acre
small holding and all 4 dogs live
outside, sleeping in insulated kennels but
coming into the house in the evening for
4-5 hours. Most of which Tommy spends
snoring snuggled up to the Aga, although he
does like a cuddle on your lap. Being
outside with the freedom to run about and
dig big holes in the lawn combined with
an evening walk is enough for the other 3
but it’s more like a warm up for Tommy.
He’s a bit of a bed hog and will spend as
much time as possible in his kennel catching
Zzz’s, so he has to quite literally be
dragged out and walked, once he’s out of
his kennel he turns into a big ball
of bullie energy and this is where the
problem lies. We don’t have the time to
commit to giving him the exercise that he
needs, we experimented with walking
him alongside a bicycle and he took to this
very well and is now pretty good at it and
can alternate quite happily between trotting
along or sprinting beside the bike depending
on how fast you pedal! We have chickens and
horses at home and Tommy is fine with both,
he isn’t scared of the horses but knows that
they are bigger than he is and he doesn’t
pay the chickens any attention apart from
trying to pinch the odd egg!

He went to puppy
and then obedience training and has passed
his Good Citizen Bronze award and if he can
only crack his Stay would be able to pass
his silver award easily. We also tried some
basic agility which he was very
enthusiastic about and this could be a good
way to tire him out! He walks to heel and
travels well in the car (sleeps like a
baby!), he’s house trained and is fine to
leave alone for a few hours,
he has excellent food manners, will do a
sit/wait for his food and is OK if you take
the food away.

Ok, so it all sounds
great so far but there are a few bad
bits.....The main issue is that he whips himself
up into such an excitement with visitors and
mouth them if not checked. as he isn’t sure what
to do. It can all be dealt with but we find
that we’re constantly stressed when people
arrive. We have found that if he’s had a long
walk that day he’s better behaved so someone
with the time to give him more exercise would
probably get better results.Tommy has a few
dislikes, he’s not too keen on the hoover and
will bark at it but if checked will go and sit
down and ignore it. He typically doesn’t like
the cold or the rain (he has a coat he wears if
its a bit chilly) and picks his way over muddy
fields like a big girls blouse! |

Our dogs are
currently fed Burns dry food and we would
send Tommy with a full sack which would be
about 2 months supply so that he can be
changed onto which ever food his new parents
prefer gently.
He has 2 coats
of varying thicknesses and would also come
with these.
As you can see
Tommy is a lovely boy who needs a full time
commitment. We know that Tommy is currently
use to living outdoors but in his home we
want him to be part of the family/household
and live indoors. Also experience with the
breed would be beneficial due to his problem
with visitors.
Although Tommy lives with three other dogs,
he can be very boisterous with them, so his
owners feel he should be an only dog.
If you feel you
can offer Tommy a good caring and
understanding home, please complete an
application form or call Joan Kenway direct
